Strike on Extortion threats: Public without public transport

Karachi: People look for transport to reach their work stations as Karachi streets wear a deserted look on strike announced by trade associations on growing trend of extortion from businessmen.
The strike has also support from various political parties including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which has major influence in Karachi,
The issue came in light after a large number of small to large business units received calls from criminal groups working in the city to send them “extortion money”.
This led to widespread protest from the trade and business community of the city.
According to security officials, aerial firing and forced closure of shops has been reported from different parts of the metropolis.
“In one such incident, a public transport was set on fire near a underpass in Garibabad area of the city,” they added.
The News Tribe Correspondent in the city said that all major markets were closed and public were already asked Friday by shop owners to buy eatables as they would not open shops on Saturday.
Similar strike is also being observed  in other cities of Sindh including Hyderabad and Sukkur.
